The Smith Premier #2 uses a 7-row, double upper case and lower case-keyboard, Qwerty, 76-key, upstroke mechanism.

The sturdy typewriter was one of the most successful of the early double-keyboard machines.

It used a very wide 2-color selectable ribbon that zigzaged back-and-forth across its width to better use all of the ribbon.

The type bars were attached to bearings to provide smooth operation and maintain proper alignment.

One of the most popular sales features was a rotating type bar cleaning brush which was included in every machine inside the type basket. It was operated with a candle that screws onto the brush.
