One of Three Royal Flatbeds in My Collection

The 1912 Royal Flatbed #5 typewriter uses a 4-row, Qwerty, 42-key, front strike impact mechanism.

This perfectly fine and functional Royal typewriter was largely a failure in the marketplace even though it included such worthwhile features as easily-read “visible” typing, a 2-color ribbon, backspace key, tab key and two paper holders next to the type bar impact point.

The decals on the front of the machine, below the space bar are nearly completely illegible. Otherwise most of the decals are in good condition.

The problem was that buyers thought it did not look like other popular machines with taller, boxier frames.

Also note the 1907 and another 1912 Royal Standard Flatbed in my collection.
